· Savannah State University men's basketball team returns home to take on Carver College in Tiger Arena today at 7 p.m.
 
Game Notes:
Tiger Bites
· The Carver Cougars are members of the NCCAA and enter today's game with 1-12 record. Carver defeated Tennessee Wesleyan, 89-79, for their only win of the season.

· This will be the 4th meeting between the Tigers and Cougars with SSU leading the series 4-0. The two teams met for four consecutive years from 2007-2011.

· After making it to the semifinals of last season's MEAC Tournament, the Tigers were picked to finish 11th in the preseason MEAC order of finish. Howard, S.C. State and Hampton were picked to finish first, second and third, respectively.

· Horace Broadnax has won 145 games at SSU and needs five more to reach 150 career wins as the Tigers' head coach.

Horace Broadnax is the Dean of MEAC basketball coaches. He is in his 12th year at the helm of the SSU program
 
PRESEASON HONORS
Dexter McClanahan was named the preseason MEAC all-conference second team
 
MOVING BACK DOWN
In April 2017, the Savannah State administration made the decision to move SSU athletics from Division I to Division II. The move will become effective following the 2018-19 season
 
TAIL OF THE TAPE
Ty'Lik Evans is the shortest player on the roster at 5-foot-7 while Marcus Glenn is the tallest at 6-foot-10.
 
PERCENTAGE POINTS
SSU lost 7 players from the 2016-17 squad. Those players made up 44 percent of the scoring and 35 percent of the rebounds.
 
WELCOME BACK
Javaris Jenkins, Alante Feener and Khalen Pinkett return to the team after not being a part of the program last season.
 
TOUGH SCHEDULE
SSU's non-conference schedule features five teams that are ranked in the AP Top 25 poll (Michigan State, Wichita State, Cincinnati, Baylor and Texas A&M)
 
CONFERENCE CLASH—SSU will play teams from 11 different Division I conferences (MEAC, American, Southern, Sun Belt, Ohio Valley, SWAC, Big 12, Colonial, Southeastern, Atlantic Coast and Big 10
 
SIGHT SEEING—SSU will play games in 12 different states this season (Ohio, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Virginia, Michigan, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and South Carolina).
 
GOOD MIXTURE- SSU's roster has a good mixture of veterans and newcomers. The Tigers roster has ten veterans  to go with six newcomers.

SSU Division I
Savannah State University made the decision to move from Division II to Division I in 1998, while opting to leave the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and become independent of conference affiliation. SSU played their first season as a Division I institution in 2002 when the NCAA granted full membership. The Tigers are currently playing as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
 
MEMORY LANE
50 years ago the 1967-68 SSU team posted a 19-9 record, averaged 97.1 points and game and had five players finish the year averaging in double figures in scoring. The team scored at least 102 points in 13 games.
