SAVANNAH, Ga.  – Freshman outside hitter Amanda Rullan Vilanova led Savannah State University women's volleyball team with six kills, while freshman middle blocker Tyran Chenault added five kills as the Lady Tigers (3-23, 1-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to North Carolina A&T State University (13-11, 5-2 MEAC) 3-0 (14-25, 14-25, 20-25) Friday night in Tiger Arena for Tiger Week.
 
Rullan Vilanova added two service aces and four digs, while Chenault recorded a .364 hitting percentage.  Senior setter Alee Quint and freshman setter Salma Gonzalez led the team with eight assists each, while freshman libero Leiri Melendez led the team with 12 digs and added three assists and a kill, her first collegiate kill.
 
Gonzalez added five digs, while freshman middle blocker Oneillia Fuller added four kills and junior middle blocker Charlinda Colbert added three kills.
 
Savannah State scored four of the first six points in the first set to take a two-point lead, 4-2, but the Aggies scored eight of the next nine points to take a five-point lead, 10-5.  The Lady Tigers responded by scoring the next four points to close within a point, 10-9.  NCAT outscored SSU 15-5 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
NCAT scored eight of the first 12 points in the second stanza to take a four-point lead, 8-4, but a Fuller kill cut the lead to three points, 8-5.  The Aggies outscored SSU 17-9 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
Savannah State scored three of the first four points in the final frame to take a two-point lead, 2-1, but NCAT scored four of the next five points to take a two-point lead, 5-3.  The Lady Tigers scored seven of the next 13 points to take a four-point, 13-9, forcing an Aggie timeout.  After the timeout, scored the next three points to close within a point, 13-12, but Savannah State scored the next three points to increase its lead to three points, 16-13.  The Aggies scored 12 of the final 16 points to win the set and the match.
 
The Aggies were led by Samara Brown with 13 kills, Edie Brewer with 17 assists and 14 digs for a double-double.
 
The Lady Tigers face Georgia Southern University Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga., for SSU's road and non-conference finale.
