Tigers Win Third In A Row

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State men's basketball team won their third game in a row, with a 74-61 victory over visiting Morgan State, in a game played in Tiger Arena.

Troyce Manassa led the way for the Tigers with 28 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The win improves SSU's home record to 5-1


Savannah State led 62-55 with 4:47 left but pulled away from the Bears with a 10-3 run to go ahead by 14 with 1:15 remaining.

The crowd of 1,230 saw the Tigers shoot 55.9 percent from the field in the second half.


Dexter McClanahan opened the game with a dunk for Savannah State as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead.

Morgan State trailed by seven with 7:10 remaining in the first period but used a 10-1 run to take a 25-23 lead at the 4:31 mark.

A 3-pointer by Isaiah Felder gave SSU a 30-28 lead with just under two minutes left but Morgan State finished the half with a layup and a  jumper by Tyler Streeter and a layup by Kyle Thomas to take a 34-30 lead into intermission.

The Bears extended their lead to six early in the second half before Savannah State went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 43-39 with 14:32 left.

MSU rallied to tie the game at 43 but the Tigers responded with a 18-5 run to go ahead 61-48 with just under six minutes showing.

The Bears never recovered and could only get as close as seven the rest of the way.

McClanahan chipped in 13 points and five rebounds for SSU (7-12, 4-2) while Robert Kelly scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Tigers, who made a season low four 3-pointers, shot 46 percent from the field while out-rebounding Morgan State 44 to 36.

SSU had 26 fast break points while Morgan State had just two.

The Bears were led by Tiwian Kendley's 17 points.

Morgan State shot 34.5 percent from the floor and received 25 points from their bench.

The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the Bears as they fell to 7-11 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
