SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior middle blocker
Gabrielle Nathaniel missed on a double-double as she recorded eight kills and eight digs along with two service aces and a block as Savannah State University volleyball team (0-12) fell to Charleston Southern (4-8) 3-1 (10-25, 25-14, 14-25, 15-25) Tuesday night in Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
Senior setter
Caitlynn Masoe added two kills with nine assists, seven digs, a service ace and two blocks, while graduate student
Justice Dilworth added six kills and five digs and freshman middle blocker
Dominique Ingram added seven kills with a .286 hitting percentage and three blocks.
Junior setter
Alee Quint led the team with 18 assists and added six digs, while senior libero
Alexis Washington led the team with 16 digs.
Charleston Southern scored 18 of the first 24 points to capture a 12-point lead, 18-6 in the first set, but the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to cut the lead to nine, 18-9, but CSU outscored the SSU 7-1 during the rest of the set to capture the 15-point set win and to take a 1-0 lead.
Savannah State scored the first nine points of the second frame to lead 9-0 and the Lady Tigers outscored CSU 16-14 during the rest of the set to capture the 11-point set win and to tie the match at one.
The Buccaneers scored 10 of the first 13 points to capture a seven-point lead, 10-3, in third stanza and pushed their lead to 10, 19-9. The Lady Tigers scored the next four points to cut the lead to seven, 20-13, but CSU outscored SSU 5-1 during the rest of the set to capture the 11-point set win and to take a 2-1 lead.
Charleston Southern scored 14 of the first 18 points to capture an 11-point lead, 14-3, in the final set, but the Lady Tigers scored the next five points to cut the lead to six, 14-8. CSU outscored SSU 11-7 during the rest of the set to capture the 10-point set win and to win the match.
The Bucs were led by Addison Kaderli with 13 kills, Rachel Smith with 36 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double, while Madison Martin added 22 digs.
The Lady Tigers travel to Charleston, S.C., for the Bulldog Invitational this weekend. SSU faces Elon at 11:30 a.m. and Charleston Southern at 4:30 p.m. Friday and host The Citadel at 11:30 a.m. on ESPN3 and Austin Peay State at 5 p.m. Saturday.
