Softball Season Ends with a 5-4 Rally Win by Delaware State at the MEAC Championship

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The No. 1N Delaware State University (30-17) defeated the No. 1S Savannah State University (26-23) in comeback fashion by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 win over the Lady Tigers at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex Friday.
 
Junior right fielder Alexis Singleton, freshman third baseman Cortni Jones and junior pitcher Amanda Hallman each went 2-for-4, while Singleton scored once, Jones scored once with an RBI and Hallman recorded two RBIs.
 
On the mound, Hallman went the distance pitching 6.2 innings giving up five runs, two earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts.
 
Savannah State scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  After the first two batters recorded outs, Singleton singled to left center and senior first baseman Torrian Wright reached on a dropped fly by the third baseman to put runners on the corners with one out.
 
Jones singled to left field to drive home Singleton for a 1-0 lead and Hallman singled to right center to bring home Wright and to put runners on second and third, but a groundout to the pitcher ended the inning.
 
Delaware State added a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut SSU's lead to a run, 2-1, after a sacrifice fly to center field.
 
The Lady Tigers added a run in the third inning to increase their lead to two runs, 3-1, after an RBI single by senior second baseman Antonette Smith to center field to bring home Jones.
 
The Lady Hornets left the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning after a strikeout looking ended the threat. 
 
Delaware State added a run in the fourth inning to cut the lead to a run, 3-2, after a leadoff solo home run.
 
The Lady Tigers scored their fourth run in the seventh inning after Hallman doubled to left center to bring home Wright to increase their lead to two runs, 4-2. 
 
Delaware State started the seventh inning with a single, a fielder's choice and a bunt single loaded the bases with no outs.  An infield single brought home a run to cut SSU's lead to 4-3, but a sacrifice fly tied the game at four and to record the first out.  A groundout to the second baseman advanced the runners to second and third with two outs, but a single to left field gave DSU the one run win.
