SAVANNAH, Ga.- Five Savannah State pitchers combined to issue 13 walks as the Tigers fell to Long Island-Brooklyn 11-3 in a game played at Tiger Field.
The Blackbirds scored six runs off of four hits in the second inning and added three runs off of one hit in the top of the third for a 9-0 lead.
SSU prevented a shutout by scoring twice in the fifth inning.
Brian Miller was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Miller scored on a single by Jonathan Moore. A single by Khalyd Cox allowed Moore to come home to slice LIU's lead to 9-2. The Tigers had the bases loaded in the sixth but could only score one run. With Knox Marchman on third, Marcus Mitchell on second and Jakeel Daniels on first, Miller reached base on a fielder's choice which allowed Marchman to score to make it a 9-3 game. LIU sent runners across home plate in the eighth and ninth innings to get the victory.
Savannah State (3-8) was led by Jonathan Moore who stole a base, singled, drove in a run and scored a run. On the mound, Alex Wright took the loss. Wright pitched 1.1 innings and gave up four hits, six runs and four walks. SSU had six hits, made one error and left 10 men on base.
Andy Camilo and Harrison Preschel both had two hits for the Blackbirds (3-5). Baylor LaPointe struck out four batters to get the win while Nick Freijomil earned the save, giving up two hits and no runs in his 3.2 innings of work.
LIU left 14 runners on base, had 11 hits and made two errors.
