Tigers Win Third Game in NCCU Series

DURHAM, N.C.- Jonathan Moore and Khalyd Cox both had RBI doubles to lead Savannah State to a 4-2 win over North Carolina Central, in a game played at the Durham Athletic Park.
The victory snapped a four game losing skid by the Tigers as they improved to 7-18 overall and 2-4 in the MEAC.
SSU took a 3-0 lead with runs in the second, third and fifth innings.
In the second inning, Charles Sikes reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman and scored on Cox's double. In the top of the third, Jalen Atterbury walked and reached second on a balk. After Mendez Elder struck out, Atterbury advanced to third base on a single by Brian Miller. Atterbury scored on a passed ball to make the score 2-0. In the fifth inning, Atterbury reached base on a error by the first baseman, advanced to third on a single by Elder and scored on a passed ball.
The Eagles sliced their deficit to one by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth.
Elder singled in the seventh and came home on a double by Moore for the final run of the contest.
NCCU had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth but Conrad Kovalcik lined into a double play to end the game.
Elder and Miller had two hits apiece for Savannah State while Atterbury scored twice. Austin Robinson was the winning pitcher while Rex Davis got the save. Robinson struck out five in five innings while Davis pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit, one walk and no runs.
SSU had seven hits, left seven men on base and made no errors.
Zach Marszal had two hits for NCCU (12-13, 5-4 MEAC) while Andrew Vernon was tagged with the loss after striking out 11 batters in six innings.
The Eagles had four hits, two errors and left four men on base.
