SAVANNAH, Ga.- After splitting a double header on Saturday, Florida A&M posted a 12-5 win over Savannah State on Sunday to win the weekend series.
Those in attendance at Tiger Field saw Dylan Dillard hit two triples and drive in four runs for the Rattlers. Dillard hit a two-run triple in the first tinning and another one in the second inning to help FAMU to a 9-0.
SSU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Jonathan Moore and Charles Sikes hit back to back singles. Moore scored on a ground-out by Jakeel Daniels while Sikes scored after Somto Egbuna hit a double down the right field line to make the score 9-2. Willis McDaniel hit a two-run double in the top of the fifth as FAMU added three more runs to increase their lead to 12-2.
Savannah State (6-15, 1-2 MEAC) would shut down the Rattlers offense the rest of the game while SSU would score once in the sixth inning and twice more in the ninth.
In the sixth, SSU loaded the bases when Daniels and Egbuna drew walks and Ryan McCranie singled. Jacob Lightle was hit by a pitch which allowed Daniels to score. In the ninth, the Tigers loaded the bases when Lightle, Cole Bruce and Khalyd Cox all drew walks. Back to back walks to Daniels and Egbuna allowed Lightle and Cole to score runs. The Tigers left the bases loaded. Daniels and Egbuna both had two RBI for SSU while McCranie had two hits.
Savannah State starter Greg Hollman only lasted one third of a inning on the mound and was tagged with the loss. Hollman, who was one of five Tigers to take the mound, gave up six hits and six runs. SSU had seven hits on the day but made two errors and left 11 runners on base.
Chase Jarrell was the winner for FAMU (14-6, 5-1 MEAC) as he gave up five hits, two runs and one walk while striking out four in five innings. He was one of six Rattler pitchers to pitch.
Florida A&M pounded out 13 hits but made three errors and left four men on base.
