Women’s Tennis Hosts Southern Miss and FAMU This Weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's tennis team (0-16, 0-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) hosts Conference USA opponent University of Southern Mississippi (12-2) on Friday at 2 p.m. and MEAC opponent Florida A&M University (5-9, 2-0 MEAC) on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Tiger Tennis Courts.
 
Over the last two MEAC matches, the Lady Tigers fell to North Carolina Central University 5-2 last Thursday and to North Carolina A&T State University 4-3 last Friday.  Sophomore Elizabeth Geronimo won both of her singles matches in North Carolina at the No. 2 singles position, while junior Jennyfer Vivas won both of her singles matches at the No. 5 singles positions.
 
The Lady Tigers lost both matches in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., 7-0 to College of Charleston and Towson University last weekend.
 
Geronimo leads the team with a 6-10 singles record, including a 6-7 record at the No. 2 singles position, while Vivas has recorded a 3-13 singles record, including a 2-6 record at the No. 5 singles position.
 
Southern Miss is coming off a 7-0 win at South Carolina State Wednesday and is on a four-match winning streak, including a five-match nonconference winning streak.  The only nonconference loss for the Eagles was against Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss., 6-1.
 
FAMU has won the last two matches against NCCU and NCAT 4-3 and 7-0 respectively and has won three of the last four matches.   
 
The Lady Tigers continue their three-game homestand with the final home match of the season against Western Carolina University on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Tiger Tennis Courts before traveling to Statesboro, Ga., for the final two matches of the season against the University of Louisiana at Monroe on April 2 at 2:30 p.m. and Georgia Southern on April 3 at noon.
