EMERSON, Ga.- Rob Dadona scored a unearned run in the top of the 12th inning and Seton Hall held on to defeat Savannah State 4-3 in the first day of action in the Spring Swing at Lakepoint Classic.
In the bottom half of the 12th, with two outs, Brian Miller doubled but Charles Sikes grounded out for the final out of the contest. The Tigers made fiver errors in the game and only gave up one earned run.
Sikes hit a single and a double for SSU while Khalyd Cox hit a triple and drove in two runs. Trevor McKenna started on the mound for Savannah State and struck out nine batters in his seven innings. He also gave up five hits, five walks and two runs. The Tigers(4-11) took the early lead in the contest.
In the bottom of the first, Jonathan Moore walked and advanced to third on a double by Sikes. Moore scored when Mendez Elder grounded out to the shortstop for a 1-0 lead. Seton Hall tied the game in the top of the third and took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth, SSU added two runs. Elder led off with a single andÂ
Somto Egbuna walked. Both scored on on a triple by Cox to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
The Pirates tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the ninth.
Savannah State left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth but could not score and the game went into extra innings.
SSU had seven hits in the game and left nine runners on base.
Zack Weigel and Derek Jenkins both had two hits for SHU (7-6).
Sam Burum earned the win for the Pirates while Anthony Pacillo got he save. Shane McCarthy started for SHU and struck out 11 in eight innings.
Seton Hall ended the game with eight hits and two errors while stranding 13 runners on base.
