DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Bethune-Cookman shot 70.8 percent from the free throw line but none seemed more important than the two made by Mario Moody with two seconds left in the game as the Wildcats topped Savannah State 62-59 in Moore Gymnasium.

Clinging to a 60-59 lead with two seconds remaining Moody sank a pair of free throws that put B-CU ahead 62-59 with what would be the final points of the game.

The Wildcats went 17 of 24 from the free throw line, all in the second period.
Â
Moody went 6 for 6 from the line while Jordan Potts made 5 of 5 and Ricky Johnson was 4 of 4.

Savannah State led 54-53 after a tip-in by
Lenjo Kilo with 1:39 left but Potts answered with a 3-pointer just seven seconds later to put Bethune up for good.

Two free throws by Moody increased the Cookman lead to 58-54 but the Tigers got back within one with 18 seconds remaining after a three-point play by Kilo.

A pair of free throws by Randy Holmes put Cookman ahead 60-57 with 7 seconds left.

The Tigers answered with two free throws by
Troyce Manassa to close their gap to 60-59 with three seconds on the clock.

The crowd of 805 saw Kilo score a season-high 23 points to go with his six rebounds. Manassa added 14 points for SSU (7-13, 3-6 MEAC).

In the opening half, Bethune raced out to a 12-3 advantage with 15:55 left in the period.

Down 14-8, Savannah State put together a 9-2 stretch to take a 17-16 lead at the 7:45 mark.

The Tigers led 23-20 with just under five minutes left but B-CU finished the half with a 8-2 spurt to take a 28-25 cushion into intermission.

Savannah State scored the first five points of the second half with a jumper from
Brian Pearson, a free throw from
Brandon Jordan and a jumper by Manassa to take a 30-28 lead.

The game was tight the rest of the way with no team leading by more than three points until late in the game when Cookman took a 58-54 lead with 1:02 left.

Cookman had three players and were led by Potts' 21 points.

The Wildcats (8-15, 5-4 MEAC) shot 42.6 percent from the field while SSU shot 40 percent.

SSU out-rebounded Cookman 34 to 32 and made 11 of 16 free throw attempts.

Horace Broadnax, who was the Bethune-Cookman head coach from 1997-2002. The Tigers remained winless on the road at 0-11 and have lost their last four games.
Bethune-Cookman- The Wildcats had 11 blocks in the game. The win gives B-CU a 6-2 home record this season. This was Potts' ninth 20-point game this season.
