IOWA CITY, Ia.- 
Troyce Manassa finished the game with a double-double but Savannah State would fall to the Iowa Hawkeyes 116-84, in a game played at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Mananna had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers.
The setback gives SSU a 0-2 record.
Jordan Gaines nailed a 3-pointer with 14:13 left in the opening period to cut SSU's deficit to 17-15 but the Hawkeyes responded with with eight unanswered points to go ahead by 10.
A 13-2 spurt by Iowa increased their lead to 40-27 with 9:29 remaining.
Savannah State was able to slice their gap to nine but Iowa ended the final six minutes of the period with a 17-6 run to take a 59-39 cushion into intermission.
During the first half, SSU out-rebounded the Hawkeyes 26 to 18.
Iowa opened the first five minutes of the second half with a 16-6 run to take a 75-45 lead.
Down by 33 with just over eight minutes remaining, Savannah State received scoring from four different players as they strung together a 15-5 run that whittled their gap to 97-74 with 5:19 remaining.
The Tigers would not get any closer the rest of the contest.
Gaines scored 10 points for SSU while Robert Kelly and 
Austin Dasent added eight points apiece.
Savannah State shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and 44.1 percent for the game. SSU made 11 3-pointers but struggled at the free throw line, making just 54.2 percent.
Iowa (2-0) was led by Brady Ellingson's 23 points. 
The crowd of 11,371 saw the Hawkeyes out-rebound Savannah State 52 to 40 while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor and made 41.9 percent of their 3-point shots
