Tigers Score Twice In The Ninth To Beat CSU

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State scored twice in the bottom of the ninth in a 4-3 non-conference victory over Charleston Southern in a game played at Tiger Field.

The Tigers, who halted a eight game losing skid with the win, improved their overall mark to 13-19,

Harrison Moore led off the ninth with a single and Ryan McCranie bunted and reached base on a fielder's choice. Brian Miller entered the game as a pinch runner for McCranie and Michael McHugh  pinch hit for Somto Egbuna. McHugh grounded out but Moore and Miller advanced to third and second respectively. Following a strikeout by Marcus Mitchell, Moore scored the game-tying run on a passed ball while Miller advanced to third base. Miller scored the game-winner when Hector Benitez reached on a error by the second baseman.

Benetiz, the Tigers lead-off hitter, was hit by a pitch in the first inning and scored after a double by Charles Sikes for a 1-0 lead.

Chase Shelton hit a two-run triple as the Bucs scored three times in the top of the second.

Savannah State cut their deficit to 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning. Moore led off with a double and reached third on a single by McCranie. Moore scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryant Prather.

That would be the all the scoring until the bottom of the ninth.
Moore had three hits for SSU and scored twice while Sikes and McCranie chipped in two hits apiece.

Savannah State used five pitchers and reliever Sherman Graves was declared the winner. Graves pitched two innings and gave up no runs or hits but did issue two walks and struck out one.

Charleston Southern (12-18) was led by Shelton who drove in two runs. Dylan Lee struck out eight in his eight innings but reliever Denis Buckley gave up one unearned run in his two-thirds of a inning while recording one strikeout.

The Tigers had eight hits and left seven runners on base while CSU had six hits an d two errors while stranding five base-runners.
