Box Score 2 TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Savannah State opened the conference portion of their season on the road with a double-header against Florida A&M at Moore-Kittles Field.
The Tigers lost the opener 3-2 but won the night-cap 7-5.Â
SSU received a strong pitching effort in both contests with Austin Denny striking out five in the opener and
Austin Robinson getting five strikeouts in the second game.

While the Tigers combined to collect 19 hits on the day, they also combined to leave 20 runners on base.

In he first game, Savannah State led 2-0 after six innings of play but FAMU scored three runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh and held on to get the win.

Mendez Elder scored the Tigers first run in the top of the first while
David Richards singled and scored on a single by
Michael McHugh in the sixth.

SSU had nine hits but left ten men on base and made two errors.
Â
Elder, Richards and
Hector Benitez all had two hits for the Tigers.
Rex Davis, who gave up a run in 2.1 innings took the loss. Davis also walked two and gave up two hits.

FAMU's Cleveland Westbrook was declared the winner while Ken McDonald earned the save. Westbrook struck out three in 2.1 innings while McDonald pitched a third of a inning.

Marlon Gibbs had two hits and drove in two runs for the Rattlers.

In the second game,
Zachary Brigham and Richards hit RBI singles for SSU in the top of the first for a 2-0 advantage.

The Tigers (5-9, 1-1) added four runs off three hits in the third for a 6-0 cushion.

Elder, Charles Sikes, Brigham and
Jonathan Moore all crossed home plate for SSU.

Brigham hit a RBI single in the fourth that scored Elder for a 7-0 lead.

The Rattlers prevented a shutout with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.

FAMU added another run in the fifth and two more in the seventh for the final runs of the game.

Robinson earned the victory for Savannah State while
Brian Miller got the save.
Â
At the plate, Brigham had three hits, three RBI and score a run for the winners. Sikes added two hits and Elder scored three times.

Gibbs had two hits and scored twice for the Rattlers (5-7, 3-2) while David Ogilvie, who pitched 2.1 innings and gave up seven hits and three runs, was tagged with the loss. Ogilvie also had four strikeouts.
