Dimitrova Remains Undefeated In MEAC Play


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Savannah State's No.1 player Kamelia Dimitrova remained undefeated in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this weekend.

Dimitrova defeated Florida A&M's Symone Townsend in the first court 6-1 and 6-4 for her fourth MEAC win of the season in singles action. Dimitrova is 10-4 on the season in singles play.   

Bria Burrows picked up her first career MEAC win in the fifth court of singles action in an exciting match. Burrows beat Elizabeth Clayton 7-5 in the first set, but fell 6-2 in the second set. Burrows pulled out a 10-7 win in the tie-breaker.

In the second court, Sandy Lochu fell to Alexis Dean in two sets, 3-6 and 2-6. In the third court, Jennyfer Vivas fell to Dominique Henry 2-6 and 4-6. Tiffany Williams fell to Elysia Ortiz 0-6 and 0-6 in the fourth court. SSU dropped the sixth court by default.

In double's action, Dimitrova and Lochu took on Townsend and Ortiz. SSU was trailing 2-5 when the match was called. Shantal Blackwood and Arrice Robinson defeated Vivas and Burrows in the second court 3-8. SSU dropped the third court by default.

SSU fell to FAMU 2-5 in the match. They fall to 2-13 on the season and 0-5 in MEAC play.

In an earlier nonconference match with Southern University in Tallahassee, SSU fell 1-6.

Dimitrova earned the Lady Tigers only point, beating Larua Syori in a hard-fought match in the first court of singles action. Dimitrova won the first set 7-6 with a 7-5 tie-breaker. She fell 2-6 in the second set, but won the match with a 12-10 tie-breaker.

Lochu dropped the second court to Gabrielle Moore 4-6 and 1-6. In the third court, Vivas fell to Gabrielle Moore 4-6 and 1-6. In the fourth court, Camara Davis defeated Williams 6-1 and 6-0. Burrows dropped the fifth court 0-6 and 1-6 to Nicki Neal.

In double's action, Dimitrova and Lochu dropped the first court to Kendall Bunch and Soryi, 1-6. Vivas and Burrows fell to Morgan Taylor and Davis, 0-6.

The Lady Tigers will play two more matches to close out the 2015 season. They play their final nonconference match with Elon University in Hilton Head, S.C. on March 24. SSU concludes the season on the Tiger Tennis Court on March 28 with a MEAC game against Bethune-Cookman.
