Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Harrison Moore and
Devin Jackson drove in two runs apiece to lead Savannah State to a 7-3 non-conference win over visiting Georgia State at Tiger Field.
Moore hit a two-run double in the second inning while Jackson had a two-run single in the sixth.
Starting pitcher Zach McCormick, who worked 5.2 innings and gave up five hits, three runs and three walks while striking out six, earned the win.
The SSU bullpen was also effective as Chris Rousse,
Kenny Glover and
Ryan Doyle combined to limit the Panthers to one hit.
Moore's double scored
David Richards and
Michael McHugh to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Justin Jones' hit a RBI single in the third to put GSU (13-7) on the scoreboard.
Both teams added a run in the fourth inning.
Matt Rose walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Thompson to tie the score at 2-2.
In the bottom half of the inning, Richards led off with a double and scored on a single by McHugh to put SSU ahead 3-2.
Sornto Egbuna led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After strikeouts by
Jonathan Moore and
Mendez Elder, Charles Sikes singled to right field which allowed Egbuna to score and extend the Tigers advantage to 4-2.
Joey Roach tripled for the Panthers in the top of the sixth and scored on a balk to cut their deficit to 4-3.
The Tigers (10-11) added three runs in the bottom of the sixth with Jackson's two run single and a RBI single by
Brian Miller that sent Jackson across home plate.
Richards and McHugh finished the game with three hits apiece while
Harrison Moore had two hits. Richards scored twice.
Georgia State had six hit and left 10 men on base while the Tigers collected 12 hits and stranded six runners.
Roach went 3 for 4 for the Panthers. Marc-Andre Habeck took the loss for GSU. Andre-Habeck pitched five innings and gave up nine hits and five runs while recording five strikeouts.
