Dimitrova, Lochu Pick Up MEAC Wins; Lady Tigers Drop Two Matches

FLORENCE, S.C. – Savannah State women's tennis dropped two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matches on Sunday in the annual MEAC Southern Division Round-Up in Florence, South Carolina.

SSU's No. 1 player, Kamelia Dimitrova played well in the team's opening match with North Carolina A&T State.

Dimitrova beat NCAT's No.1 player Khalia Powell in straight sets of single's action, 6-2 and 6-4. In doubles, Dimitrova and SSU's No. 2 player Sandy Lochu teamed up to beat Nadia Hilton-Adams and Powell 8-2.

Dimitrova is 7-4 on the season in singles, and 2-0 in MEAC singles play.  Dimitrova and Lochu are 7-4 and 2-0 as well in doubles competition this season.

Lochu earned her first MEAC win in the second court against NCAT, beating Kenya Colbert 6-1 and 6-0. Lochu is 3-7 in singles competition this year.

In third court single's action, Jennyfer Vivas dropped the first set 4-6 to Hilton-Adams, but rebounded with a 7-5 win in the second set. Hilton-Adams earned the match point with a 10-5 tie-breaker win.

Playing in the fourth court, Tiffany Williams fell to Kayla Jefferson 1-6 and 0-6. Bria Burrows dropped the fifth court 2-6 and 3-6. SSU defaulted the sixth court.
Vivas and Burrows fell to Colbert and Tyla Goodridge in the second court of doubles, 5-8. SSU defaulted the third court of doubles, relinquishing the double's point to the Lady Aggies.

The Lady Tigers dropped the match 2-5.

In Sunday's second MEAC match against Norfolk State, SSU fell 0-5. The first two courts of singles went unfinished. Dimitrova fell 3-6 to Liza Gordeeva in the first court, and was leading 3-2 when the set ended.

Lochu fell 3-6 in her opening set against Dajana Cvjetkovic and was trailing 0-2 when the set ended.

Vivas dropped the third court, 0-6 and 0-6, to Andrea Macchiavello. Williams fell to Yvonne Kamegne in the fourth court, 2-6 and 1-6. Burrows fell in straight sets to Krystal Scott in the fifth court, 0-6 and 0-6. NSU won the sixth court by default.

Dimitrova and Lochu took on Cvjetkovic and Liza Gordeeva in the first court of doubles, but the match went unfinished. Vivas and Burrows fell to Macchiavello and Mafalda Lhorca 0-8 in the second court of doubles. SSU dropped the third court by default.

The Lady Tigers fall to 2-10 on the season with the two losses, and 0-3 in MEAC competition. They conclude the Round-Up on Monday with a game against South Carolina State.
