Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State baseball team swept a doubleheader from North Carolina Central 6-0 and 1-0 in games play at Tiger Field.

The Tigers received a strong pitching effort in both games with
Austin Robinson striking out six batters in the opener and Austin Denny striking out eight in the second game. Both pitchers pitched a complete game.

The victories improve SSU to 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

In the first game, Savannah State had 15 hits and scored all of their runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Jacob Lightle grounded to third for the first out but
Hector Benitez singled,
Mendez Elder doubled and following a pitching change, Charles Sikes was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Zachary Brigham singled and that brought home Benitez and Elder and
David Richards hit a double that allowed Sikes and Brigham to score.
Harrison Moore, who was brought in to pinch hit for
Michael McHugh, singled to right. Richards advanced to third but was thrown out at home for the second out.
Jonathan Moore doubled down the left field line to bring home
Harrison Moore and Ryan McRanie's single allowed
Jonathan Moore to score the final run.

Brigham had three hits and two RBI for the Tigers.
Jonathan Moore and McRanie also had three hits apiece while Elder collected two hits. Richards drove in a pair of runs. SSU left 10 runners on base.

NCCU had seven hits and stranded six runners on base.

Conrad Kovalcik and Corey Williamson had three hits apiece for the Eagles. Kyle Shields took the loss. Shields pitched 1.2 innings and gave up six hits and four runs.

In the second game, Robinson tossed a two-hitter and like Denny, did not issue any walks.Â

SSU's offense produced six hits and 10 men were left on base.

The lone run of the contest was scored in the bottom of the eighth.

Sikes led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Brigham. Richards hit a single through the ride side of the infield which allowed Sikes to cross home plate for the game winning run.

Sikes had two of the Tigers six hits.

Andre Vernon took the loss for NCCU. Vernon pitched a third of a inning in relief and surrendered three hits, one run and one walk. Eric Kimber and James Dey each had a hit for the Eagles (6-10, 3-4).
