Women’s Tennis Open MEAC Play

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Savannah State women's tennis team opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play at Timrod Park in Florence, S.C. on Thursday with the first match of the MEAC Southern Division Round-Up.

SSU opened the three-day round-up with a 1-6 loss to North Carolina Central. They continue MEAC play on Sunday with two games against North Carolina A&T State and Norfolk State.

The Lady Tigers' No. 1 player Kamelia Dimitrova earned SSU's lone point on the day. She defeated Ekaterina Nekrasova in straight sets in the first court, 6-1 and 7-5. Dimitrova improves to 6-4 on the season in first court play.

Dimitrova and teammate Sandy Lochu teamed up in double's action to beat Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood, 8-7 with a 7-5 tie-breaking win in the pro-style match. Dimitrova and Lochu are 6-4 in doubles play this year.

Lochu dropped the second court of single's play to Aissa Muamba in straight sets, 1-6 and 3-6. Jennyfer Vivas fell to Wood in the third court, 0-6 and 0-6.

Tiffany Williams fell to Lynsey Cover in the fourth court, 0-6 and 0-6. Bria Burrows dropped the fifth court to Jamie Rogers 2-6 and 0-6. Burrows and Vivas fell in the second set of doubles to Muamba and Mia Ramic, 0-8.

Savannah State falls to 2-8 on the season and 0-1 in MEAC play. N.C. Central improves to 3-6 and 1-0 on the year.
