Tigers Lose Doubleheader At Alabama

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HOOVER, Ala.- The Savannah State University baseball team lost a double-header to Alabama in games played at Hover Met by scores of 7-2 and 4-2.
 
The loss keeps the Tigers winless on the road while UA improves their record to 6-2.
 
Alabama scored once in the first inning.
 
SSU left the bases full in the top of the second but the Tide didn't squander their opportunities, using  a grand slam from Casey Hughston to score five times in the bottom of the second for a 6-0 lead.
 
The Tigers left three runners on base in the fourth without scoring while Alabama added another run to go ahead 7-0.
 
SSU collected three hits in the seventh as they prevented a shutout by scoring twice as Charles Sikes and Zachary Brigham both singled and scored on wild pitches.
 
The Tigers had runners in scoring position in the ninth but left two runners on base without scoring.
 
SSU stranded 14 runners on base and left runners on the base-pads in eight of the nine innings.
 
The crowd of 2,500 saw David Richards (three hits) and Sikes (two hits) combined for five of SSU's six hits in the game.
 
SSU used four pitchers with starter Ryan Doyle lasting two innings and giving up six runs, four hits and three walks.

The Tide, who collected nine hits, were paced by Georgie Salem who had two hits. Jake Walters, who relieved starter Nick Eicholtz in the top of the fourth, gave up two runs on four hits and struck out five to pick up the win.

In the nightcap, the Crimson Tide used a two-run triple from Kyle Overstreet, a solo home run by Charles Vincent and a strong pitching effort from Jake Hubbard to slip past SSU (3-5).

Overstreet hit his triple in the third for a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers sliced their deficit in half in the top of the sixth.

Jonathan Moore led off with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout by Hector Benetiz. Moore made his way to third, following a single by Mendez Elder and scored on a foul out by Sikes.

UA, ranked 24th in the nation, went ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the inning on a home run by Vincent.

Savannah State made it a 3-2 game in the eighth as Moore reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop and scored on a single by Sikes.
The Tide added the final run of the game in the bottom half of the eighth.

SSU ended the contest with six hits while leaving five on base. Alabama stranded nine runners but had 11 hits.
Sikes had two hits and drove in two runs for the Tigers while Moore scored twice.

Greg Holman took the loss. Hollman pitched six innings and gave up seven hits and three runs while striking out three.
Vincent had two hits and scored twice for 'Bama while Hubbard struck out six batters in six inning while giving up three hits. J.C. Wilhite earned the save, striking out two batters in 1.1 inning.
