UAB Shuts Out Tigers

Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Alabama-Birmingham scored early and often as the Blazers defeated Savannah State 20-0 in a game played at Young Memorial Field.

The UAB hitters roughed up the Tiger pitching staff for 15 hits.

SSU starter Kenny Glover lasted just one inning on the mound, giving up four hits and five runs. Malik Jones pitched one third of a inning and surrendered five runs, five hits and six walks. Chris Hayes gave up eight runs in 2.2 innings while Michael Sailros gave up a p;air of runs in one inning. Chris Rousse pitched one inning and did not give up a hit or run.

In the first inning, Jeff Schalk hit a two-run home run as the Blazers scored five times. Brett Blackwood hit a two-run double in the second as UAB went ahead 10-0. UAB added two runs in the third to go ahead 12-0.

In the fourth, Schlak hit a two run double while Esteban Tresgallo and Adam Lau both hit two run homers for a 18-0 cushion.

Schalk added another two run home run in fifth, for the final runs of the contest.

Jonathan Moore had a single and a double for Savannah State (3-3).

Glover was tagged with the loss.

The Tigers, who stranded seven base runners, made three errors and her held to four hits. 

Schalk went 4-for-4 for the Blazers (5-0). He drove in six runs and scored five times.

James Naile earned the win as he struck out eight in 5.2 innings.
