Dimitrova Picks Up Win; Lady Tigers Drop Road Match To Mercer

MACON, Ga.  – Savannah State newcomer Kamelia Dimitrova garnered a big win in the first court on Saturday, earning the Lady Tigers sole point in a 1-6 loss to Mercer University.
 
Dimitrova won in straight sets over Korta Grace, 6-2, and 7-5. The Sofia, Bulgaria native improves to 3-1 this year in singles competition. SSU falls to 1-3 overall.
 
Sandy Lochu dropped the second court to Xandra Fougner, 3-6 and 0-6. Jennyfer Vivas, in position three, was defeated by Haley Powell, 1-6, and 2-6.
 
In court four, Tiffany Williams lost to Roxy Bartz in straight sets, 0-6 and 0-6. Bria Burrows dropped straight sets, 1-6 and 1-6, to Laura Kelly in court five. Mercer received one point from a default.
 
Doubles play was not fruitful for the Lady Tigers. Teamed up in court one against Grace and Bartz, Dimitrova and Lochu battled, but dropped the set 4-8.
 
Vivas and Burrows played versus Fougner and Powell in court two and lost, 0-8. Liza Klyachkin and Kelly won in court three from a default.
 
Savannah State returns to the court with two nonconference games against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State University, on Feb. 22 in Durham, N.C.
