Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Alcorn State jumped out to a 7-0 lead and went on to defeat Savannah State 9-4, in a game played at Tiger Field.

It was the first loss of the young season for the Tigers (2-1).

The Braves scored three runs in the first inning off of four hits and added four runs off three hits in the second inning.

Savannah State scored a run in the bottom of the second thanks to a lead-off home run by Charles Sikes.
Â
The Tigers sliced their deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth, with a pair of runs.
Â
Sikes led off with a walk and scored on a triple by
Zachary Brigham. After
Kenny Glover grounded out and
Ryan McCranie drew a walk, Sornto Egbuna reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Brigham to score.

ASU only had one hit in the sixth but thanks to a trio of Savannah State errors, the Braves scored a run to increase their lead to 8-3.

Egbuna singled in the seventh and scored on a ground-out by
Mendez Elder.

The Braves scored the final run of the game in the top of the eighth.

SSU left two runners on base in the bottom of the inning and another in the bottom of the ninth.

The Tigers stranded nine base runners in the game while Alcorn State left eight on the base pads.

Egbuna hit two singles for the Tigers, Elder hit a double, Brigham hit a triple and Sikes hit a home run and scored twice.

Malik Jones started the game but only lasted two-thirds of a inning as he gave up three hits and three runs.

As a team, the Tigers collected seven hits but made six errors.

Nick Brooks had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run.

Cedric Walker pitched six innings and struck out five batters to earn the win while Colton Laird, who pitched three innings and gave up one run, earned the save.
