Zachary Brigham drove in five runs to lead Savannah State to a season-opening double-header win over Alcorn State at Tiger Field.

The Tigers won the opener 10-5 and completed the sweep with a 11-1 victory in the second game.

Brigham drove in four runs in the first game and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second game to collect another RBI.

In the first game, the Tigers scored four times in the first inning as Brigham and
Ryan McCranie hit two-run doubles.

Alcorn State cut their deficit in half with runs in the third and fourth innings.

SSU answered with more three runs in the fifth with
Devin Jackson hitting a RBI single and
Hector Benitez adding a two-run single.

After the Braves pulled within 7-3 in the seventh, Savannah State scored three times in the bottom of the eighth.

With the bases loaded, Charles Sikes drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch and Brigham added a two run single for a 10-3 cushion.

LaDerrick Williams hit a two-run double for ASU in the ninth for the final runs of the contest.

The teams combined for seven errors with the Tigers making four.

Brigham, Jackson and Benitez all had two hits for SSU. McCrannie and Benitez drove in two runs apiece while
David Richards scored three times while Sikes and Brigham crossed home plate twice.

Austin Denny earned the victory on the mound, going 5.2 innings. Denny scattered five hits while striking out nine.

Daniel Belmont took the loss for the Braves as he pitched four innings and gave up six runs and six walks.

Collin Carroll had a solo home run for ASU.

In the nightcap, both teams scored runs in the first inning.

Somto Egbuna hit a RBI single in the second inning and singled and scored in the fourth to increase SSU's lead to 3-1.

Savannah State (2-0) sent five runners across the plate in the fifth on four hits.

Harrison Moore, Egbuna and
Mendez Elder all scored runs.

Brigham and McHugh scored on a double by Benitez, Moore scored on a error, Egbuna scored on a single by Richards and Elder scored when Brigham was hit by a pitch.

SSU added two more runs in the seventh as
Jonathan Moore and
Mendez Elder scored runs to make the score 10-1.

Benitez scored on a wild pitch in the eighth for the final run of the contest.

Benitez had two hits and had two RBI for the Tigers while Egbuna had a pair of hits and scored twice. Richards scored twice, Elder scored three times and Moore scored twice.

Freshman
Kenny Glover started the game for SSU and scattered four hits in six innings. Glover also struck out three batters and gave up three walks.

Williams had two hits for ASU (0-2) . Brandon Vegas pitched four innings and struck out four while giving up three hits and three runs to take the loss.
