Norfolk State rallied with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and a filed goal that tied the game with 2:28 remaining to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, SSU's
John Barron missed on a 44 yard attempt, in the Tigers first possession.

The Spartans did not waste their opportunity as Cameron Marouf hit a 38 yard field goal that proved to be the game winner to give the crowd of 15,123 a reason to have a happy homecoming celebration.

The win snapped a three game losing streak for Norfolk State while SSU extended their losing skid to four games.

Savannah State scored on their second possession of the contest as
Richard Williams II scored on a three yard run with 3:07 left in the first quarter. Barron kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The scoring drive took eight plays and 38 yards. SSU did not attempt a pass on and was highlighted by a 18 yard run by Williams.

Early in the second quarter, SSU's
Stefen Banks sacked the Norfolk State quarterback (Greg Hankerson) for a seven yard loss. Hankerson fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Tigers' Conner Christian at the 10 yard line.

The Tigers could not punch the ball into the end zone but did not come away empty as Barron kicked a 24 yard field goal with 10:28 left in the half for a 10-0 advantage.

Late in the quarter, Norfolk State turned a SSU turnover into a touchdown as Hankerson threw a nine yard touchdown to Isaac White with 1:03 on the clock. Marouf converted the extra point to cut the Spartans deficit to 10-7.

Harry Freeman intercepted a pass thrown by SSU backup quarterback
Leon Prunty and returned it 16 yards to the Tigers 31 to set up the Spartans scoring drive.

SSU scored on their first series of the third quarter, a 11 play, 79 yard drive which ended in Spaulding's one yard touchdown run.

Spaulding had a 29 yard scamper during the drive while
Uriah Oliver added a 11 yard run.

Early in the final quarter, the Price Stadium crowd saw the Spartans complete a 18 play, 75 yard drive with Shakeem Copeland running for a two yard touchdown with 14:53 remaining in the contest to slice SSU's lead to 17-14.

Two series later, Marouf kicked the game tying field goal from 41 yards with less than two and a half minutes left.

The Tigers offense was stymied in the fourth quarter, not getting pass their own 32.

In the overtime period, SSU ran four plays for minus one yard and Barron missed his 44 yard field goal attempt.

Norfolk State ran four plays for four yards but was successful on their 38 yard field goal attempt.

Spaulding led SSU (1-7) by rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown while Williams added 87 yards and a touchdown. Spaulding completed 5 of 9 passes for 16 yards. Jeremiah Harris had two receptions for 12 yards.
Trevion Ashford had a team high 15 tackles.

Copeland ran for 56 yards and a touchdown while Hankerson completed 18 of 35 passes for 131 yards and a score and White had five catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.
