SAVANNAH, Ga.- Chris Martin scored 28 points to lead Savannah State to a 91-84 exhibition win over Armstrong State in a game played at Tiger Arena.

The Tigers fought back from a 12-point deficit early in the second period.

Armstrong held an eight point lead at the half and extended their lead to 50-38 less than three full minutes into the second period.

SSU responded with 14 unanswered points to go ahead 52-50 with 13:39 remaining.

A layup and a free throw by the Pirates Loren Hall put ASU ahead 53-52.

Martin added another 3 pointer for the Tigers while Hall hit a jumper for the Pirates to knot the contest at 55 with 12:55 left.

Khalen Pinket made one of two free throw attempts to give Savannah State a 56-55 edge with 12:38 to start a 14-4 spurt that would put SSU ahead by ten with 7:34 on the clock.

A pair of free throws by Hall got Armstrong within 70-66 with just over six minutes remaining but a 9-3 mini run extended SSU's lead back to ten with 3:56 on the clock.

Armstrong never got any closer than six the rest of the way.

Martin, a graduate student who last played at Mt. St. Mary's, hit 10 of 18 shots from the floor and made 8 of 12 of his 3-point attempts. He also dished out five assists.

Troyce Manassa added 19 points and six rebounds while
Lenjo Kilo chipped in a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

In the first half, SSU held a 12-6 lead four minutes into the contest.

Down 16-12, the Pirates ran off 14 straight points as part of a 17-2 spurt to grab a 29-18 lead with 6:55 remaining before intermission.

Brian Pearson followed by a free throw from
Javaris Jenkins and a 3 pointer by Martin sliced the Tigers deficit to five with 5:26 left.

The Pirates strung together a 9-3 run to go up 38-27 with 3:27 left and led 43-35 at the half.

Armstrong placed four players in double figures.

Herbert Graham and Ethan Mackey each scored 15 points while Hall added 12 and Nicholas Scott chipped in 11. Graham finished the contest with a team-high seven rebounds and six assists while Mackey blocked five shots.

The crowd of 5,191 saw the Tigers shoot 47 percent from the floor for the game and make 50 percent of their 3-point shots.

SSU out-rebounded the Pirates 44 to 34.

Armstrong shot 51.7 percent from the field and made 45 percent from the 3 point shots.
