WACO, Tx.- Baylor had five players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field as the 20th ranked Bears defeated Savannah State 100-61 in the Ferrell Center.
Baylor led 22-14 with 12:37 left in the first half but freshman guard Dexter McClannahan hit a 3-pointer to start a 8-2 spurt to pull the Tigers within 24-22.
Ahead by two with just over ten minutes remaining, a dunk by Johnathan Motley started a 18-4 Baylor run that gave the Bears a 42-26 advantage.
A 3-pointer by Chris Martin got SSU within 13 with 1:42 left but the Tigers trailed 51-33 at intermission.
Martin scored all 11 of his points in the first half.
Although Baylor held a comfortable lead, the teams traded baskets for most of the first nine minutes of the second half but a 10-0 Baylor run put the Bears ahead 84-49 with 7:48 remaining.
Leading 90-57 with 5:33 left, Baylor closed the game with a 10-4 run.
Lengo Kilo led the Tigers (3-2) with 13 points ans six rebounds, before fouling out with 6:42 left to go.
Troyce Manassa added nine points.
Baylor (3-1) was led by Motley's 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bears won the rebounding battle 44 to 25.
TIP INS:
SSU shot 52.2 percent from the floor in the first half and made 5 of 8 of their 3-point shots.
BU' Taurean Prince made 5 of 7 of his 3 point attempts and finished the game with 20 points.
