JACKSON, Ms.- Savannah State led at the half but Jackson State broke open a close game with 20 unanswered points in a 69-42 victory over Savannah State in a game played in the Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.

The contest was part of the Global Sports Shootout.

SSU led by as many as eight points in the opening period before Jackson State closed their deficit to one with 5:32 remaining in the half.

Savannah State answered with a 3-pointer by
Isaiah Felder and a free throw by Chris Martin to increase their advantage to 26-21 with 2:58 remaining.

SSU was held scoreless the remainder of the period while Jackson State pulled within three.
Â
Lenjo Kilo started the second period with a layup to give Savannah State a 28-23 edge.

Ahead 30-28 early in the second half, Martin hit a pair of free throws to give SSU a 32-28 lead with 17:33 on the clock.

JSU responded with a 20-0 run that gave the home team and 48-32 lead with 8:47 left.

Jackson State added a 12-2 run to go ahead 62-38 with less than four minutes left.

Martin was the only Savannah State player in double figures with 14 points. He also had a game-high six rebounds.

SSU shot 17.4 percent from the floor in the second period and 27.1 percent for the game.

The Tigers (3-3) out-rebounded JSU 41 to 33 but made just 19 percent of their 3-point attempts.

Jackson State (2-4) shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and 44.8 percent for the game.

Paris Collins had a game-high 19 points to go along with his five rebounds and five assists.

Tip-ins:
This was the first game this season that Martin went without making a 3-point attempt for SSU.
JSU has not had a winning season since the 2010-11 season
