Box Score NORFOLK, Va.- Savannah State pounded out 20 hits and outscored Florida A&M 12-1 in the final four innings in a 14-6 win over the Rattlers on the second day of action in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament played at Marty Miller Field.

Marlon Gibbs and Ryan Kennedy had RBI singles for FAMU in the first inning to give the Rattlers the early lead.

In the third, SSU loaded the bases and scored two runs to tie the game as
Mendez Elder hit a RBI double that scored
Todd Hagen and
Aaron Hoffer's ground-out allowed
David Richards to cross home plate.

Jared Walker hit a three run triple for FAMU (25-25) in the fourth for a 5-2 lead.

The sixth inning saw the Tigers collect five hits and score five times to go ahead 7-5.

Richards, Elder, Hoffer and
Parker Nix all drove in runs while
Lee Moore,
Hector Benitez, Charles Sikes, Elder and Hoffer scored runs.

Gibbs hit a RBI double for Florida A&M in the seventh to slice their deficit to 7-6 but would get no closer as SSU added three runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth to seal the win and advance to play Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at 1pm.

During the regular season, FAMU defeated the Tigers five times in their six meetings.

SSU made two errors in the contest and left 12 runners on base while the Rattlers had 10 hits and six errors and left seven runners on base.

Elder and Nix each had four hits for the Tigers. Elder drove in three runs and scored twice. Richards had three hits and scored three times while Hoffer and
Zachary Brigham both drove in three runs. Hoffer also scored twice. Hagen had two hits and scored twice and Sikes scored three times, had two hits and drove in two runs.

Brandon Whitmore started for the Tigers (22-29) and pitched 3.1 innings. Whitmore gave up seven hits and five runs before being relieved by
Austin Robinson who pitched 1.2 innings and gave up one hit.
Kevin Herlihy pitched the final four innings and gave up two hits and one run. Robinson was awarded the win while Herlihy earned the save.

Bennie Robinson had three hits for the Rattlers and Walker drove in three runs. David Duncan was tagged with the loss. Duncan pitched 5.2 innings and gave up 10 hits,six runs and four walks while striking out five.
