The Savannah State baseball team wrapped up their regular season with a 6-4 home victory over North Carolina Central on May 9. The Tigers, who closed the regular season winning seven of their last nine conference games, hope the momentum continues as SSU prepares to defend their title in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament.

SSU, who is the fourth seed in the Southern Division, will play Delaware State, the top seed in the Northern Division, on Wednesday, May 14 at 4 p.m. It will be the first time the teams meet this season.

Leading SSU at the plate is Charles Sikes. The junior college transfer anchors the team with a .375 batting average as well as hits (69), doubles (15), home runs (9) and runs batted in (46). He also has a .614 slugging percentage.

Others to watch out for are Todd Hagen, David Richards, Parker Nix, Mendez Elder and Zachary Brigham.

Austin Denney is the top Tiger on the mound. Denney has a 3.99 earned run average to go along with his 5-4 record. Denney along with Brandon Whitmore both lead the squad with 43 strikeouts. Kevin Herlihy is the top reliever. Herlihy, Eric Ricks and Ryan McCranie anchor the SSU bullpen.
