Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss.- Savannah State fell to 12-21 after losing a non-conference double-header at Jackson State.
SSU lost the opener 8-4 and the nightcap 6-2.
Savannah State had their chances to score more runs but left 13 runners stranded in both contests, which was played at Braddy Field.
In the first game, both squads scored twice in the first inning but JSU added four runs in the fifth and sent two more runners across home plate in the eighth for a 8-2 lead.
Savannah State scored twice in the top of the ninth.
Austin Denney pitched five innings for SSU, giving up seven hits and six runs. At the plate,
Todd Hagen had two hits and scored twice while
Lee Moore had two hits and drove in two runs. Charles Sikes and
Zachary Brigham added two hits apiece.
Melvin Rodriguez had three hits for Jackson State while Brandon Gregory was declared the winner after pitching five innings and surrendering seven hits and two runs.
In the second game, Savannah State out-hit JSU but could only push two runs across the plate.
SSU scored their runs in the top of the second after a two-run single by Hagen.
That lead stood until the bottom of the eighth when JSU scored six runs off five hits. The scoring was capped by a two-run double by Jose Cruz.
Hagen,
David Richards and
Kevin Herlihy all had two hits for SSU.
Brandon Whitmore pitched 7.1 innings for SSU but reliever
Ryan McCranie was tagged with the loss after giving up four hits and four runs in two-thirds of a inning.
Cruz had two hits and drove in two runs for Jackson State (23-12). Reliever Vincent Anthonia pitched three innings an d gave up three walks and two hits while striking out four to get the victory.
