Tigers Take DH From A&T

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C.- Savannah State improved to 17-26 overall with a double header sweep of North Carolina A&T at War Memorial Stadium.
 
In the Tigers unleashed a 19-hit attack in a 17-7 win while capturing a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
 
The wins improved SSU's conference record to 8-11 while the Aggies fell to 8-12.
 
Todd Hagens and David Richards were both hit by pitches and later scored as Savannah State opened the first inning of the first game with a 2-0 lead.
 
The Aggies answered in the bottom of the inning with five runs on four hits and a trio of SSU errors.
 
Both squads scored single runs in the second inning but SSU sent six runners across home plate in the top of the third to take a 9-6 lead.
 
SSU loaded the bases in the third and Parker Nix, Aaron Hoffer, Zachary Brigham, Kevin Herlihy, Hagen, Richards and Charles Sikes all collected hits.
 
Michael McHugh hit a RBI single for the Tigers in the fourth as they increased their advantage to 10-6.
 
The Tigers scored three times in the fifth and sixth innings for a 16-6 cushion.
 
Sikes hit a two run double and Hoffer hit a RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth while McHugh, Herlihy and Richards scored in the sixth.
 
A&T scored a run in the bottom of the fifth but the Tigers got it back in the eighth when Sikes led off with a solo home run.
 
Sikes had three hits, five RBI and scored twice for SSU. McHugh and Herlihy had three hits apiece while Hagen, Richards, Nix and Brigham each had two hits. Hagen scored three times and drove in two runs, Richards scored four times, Nix drove in two runs and Brigham scored twice.
 
Austin Denney pitched six innings and gave up nine hits in the win.
 
The Tigers made four errors and left 12 men on base.
 
Charles Cantrell took the loss for A&T, giving up seven runs in 2.2 innings. Luke Tdndler went 4 for 5 for A&T.
 
The second game was a pitchers dual as SSU had eight hits and A&T had six.
 
Brandon Whitmore was tagged with the win, pitching five innings and giving up one run  while striking out three. Herlihy earned the save, striking out two in two innings.
 
A&T led 1-0 after the third inning but Savannah State scored two runs off four hits in the sixth with Sikes and Hoffer hitting RBI singles.
 
Sikes and Nix had two hits each for SSU.
 
Tyler Boone pitched seven innings for the Aggies (15-28) and struck out five batters. Five different players had hits in a losing effort.
