Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Savannah State fell to 4-10 in conference play after suffering a 9-8 loss to Florida A&M in a game played at Moore-Kittles Field.
SSU led 3-0 before the Rattlers took a 4-3 lead in the third inning.
The Tigers added three more runs in the third to go ahead 6-4 but a Florida A&M scored four times in the bottom of the fourth and never trailed again.
Todd Hagen,
Lee Moore and
Parker Nix all had two hits each for Savannah State (13-24).
Hagen and
Hector Benitez both singled in the first and scored runs to give SSU the early lead.
Benitez reached on a fielder's choice in the third and later scored to push the Tigers advantage to 3-0.
Michael Birdsong hit a two-run single as the Rattlers scored four times in the bottom of the third.
SSU answered with a trio of runs in the fourth on just one hit.
Moore was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Nix. Nix scored on a ground out by Hagen while
Michael McHugh, who reached base on a fielding error by the third baseman, crossed home plate after Benitez reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop to give SSU a 6-4 lead.
In the sixth, Ryan Kennedy belted a three-run home run as the Rattlers (15-20, 10-7) scored four times to take a 8-6 advantage.
FAMU scored once in the seventh to increase their lead to 9-6.
In the top of the eighth, SSU added the final two runs of the game when Moore and Nix crossed home plate.
The Rattlers ended the game with 12 hits, left 10 men on base and made four errors. SSU had nine hits and one error and stranded seven runners.
Benitez, Moore and Nix all scored twice for SSU while Hagen drove in a pair of runs.
Zach McCormack pitched 5.2 innings and gave up nine hits, eight runs and four walks.
Marlon Gibbs and Logan Seymour both had three hits for the Rattlers while Brandon Fleming pitched 4.1 innings in relief to earn the win. William Carrasco was awarded the save after pitching 1.1 innings.
