Tigers and Rattlers Split Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Savannah State and Florida A&M split a double-header played at Moore-Kittles Field with FAMU winning the opener 6-5 while SSU bounced back to capture the nightcap 8-3.
 
In the first game, the Tigers battled back from a 5-3 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth but FAMU won the contest with a run in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Todd Hagen scored twice as Charles Sikes hit a RBI single for SSU in the first inning while David Richards hit a RBI single in the third for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Tigers increased their lead to 3-0 when Sikes hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
 
Jeremy Barlow hit a two-run homer for the Rattlers in the bottom of the inning as FAMU scored five runs off four hits to go ahead 5-3.
 
SSU loaded the bases in the sixth when Richards, Zachary Brigham and Lee Moore all hit singles. Marcus Wojtkowicz's single down the right field line scored Richards and Brigham to tie the game.
 
The Rattlers loaded the bases in the ninth and a single by Michael Birdsong proved to the the game winner.
 
Richards, Sikes and Hagen all had two hits for the Tigers. Hagen scored twice while Sikes and Wojtkowicz drove in two runs apiece. Closer Eric Ricks took the loss on the mound.
 
Bennie Robinson had three hits for FAMU while William Carrasco was declared the winner. Carrasco pitched 3.2 innings an d struck out three batters.
 
In the second game, SSU (13-23, 4-10) scored three times in the third and fifth innings as they rolled to victory.
 
Sikes hit a two run home run in  the top of the first for a 2-0 lead but the Rattlers scored a run in the bottom of the inning.
 
Sikes drilled a three run homer in the third over the left field fence for a 5-1 cushion.
 
The Tigers left the bases loaded in the fifth but were able to score three times as Hagen, Hector Benitez and Richards crossed home plate to make the score 8-1.
 
FAMU added two runs in the bottom of the inning to close out the scoring for both squads.
 
Both teams left five runners on base while SSU had 10 hits and the Rattlers had seven.
 
Sikes had three hits, six RBIs and scored twice, Richards had three hits and scored three times while Benitez scored twice. Brandon Whitmore went six innings on the mound  and struck out four to get the win.
 
Ryan Kennedy had two hits for FAMU (14-20, 9-7). Starter David Duncan was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs in four innings.
