Women’s Tennis Falls To Bethune-Cookman


The Lady Tigers traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida on Tuesday for a match against the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman to open the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) portion of the 2014 campaign.

In singles competition, senior Andrea Pavlovic, playing in the first position, fell to Mina Matsuba in straight sets, 0-6, and 1-6. B-CU's Chinatsu Kajiwara downed Angela Bonilla in straight sets 6-2, and 6-0.  Nadin Olsson battled with Maria Dimitrova in the third court, but ultimately fell 3-6, and 2-6.

From the fourth and fifth spots, Jennyfer Vivas lost to Elizabeth Nyenwe 2-6, and 0-6, and Nicole Ashiedu fell to Gaby Chinchilla 2-6, and 1-6.  Tiffany Williams wrapped up the singles match, losing to Ancia Ifill 0-6, and 0-6. 

On the doubles court, SSU's Pavlovic and Olsson teamed up to face Matsuba and Maria Sablina of Cookman. The B-CU pairing defeated SSU 8-0.  Bonilla and Vivas fell to Dimitrova and Kajiwara 0-8.  Ashiedu and Williams rounded out the doubles competition, losing to Ifill and Valentina Beresiarte 3-8.

The Lady Tigers, 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play, are scheduled to take on Campbell University on Wednesday.
