Aggies Take Weekend Series From SSU

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Mendez Elder hit two home runs but his efforts would not be enough as Savannah State lost 4-3 to North Carolina A&T at Tiger Field.
 
Both teams had seven hits and the Aggies stranded 10 base runners while SSU left six on base.
 
Brandon Whitmore pitched six innings for the Tigers, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out two.
 
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Ernesto Lizardi hit a two-run single to give A&T a 2-0 lead.
 
Elder hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Tigers' deficit in half.
 
A&T scored twice in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 4-1. Lee Moore led off the bottom of the inning with a walk for Savannah State and scored on a single by Kevin Herlihy to make the score 4-2.
 
Elder hit his second solo homer of the game in the eighth but that would be all the scoring for the Tigers as they fell to 8-15 overall and 2-7 in the MEAC.
 
Moore had two hits for SSU. Whitmore took the loss for the Tigers. Ryan Doyle pitched three innings in relief and gave up two hits and two runs while striking out three.
 
Ryan Hill went 2 for 3 for A&T (11-12, 6-3) while Mitchell McQueen earned the victory as he scattered five hits in six innings. McQueen and reliever Brian Poag each struck out four batters.
