Women’s Tennis Downs Benedict


SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Lady Tigers picked up their third win of the season with a 7-0 rout of Benedict College on the new Tiger Tennis Courts in Savannah.

Andrea Pavlovic garnered her third win in singles action this season, playing on the first court in a thrilling tie-breaker. Pavlovic beat Easter Zelaya 6-1 in the opening set, but fell 3-6 in the second set to force the tie-breaker. The Belgrade, Serbia native broke the tie with a 10-5 win.

SSU newcomer Angela Bonilla had a similar fate in the second court. Bonilla fell in the first set, 5-7 to Benedict's Glory Zhou. In the second set, Bonilla and Zhou went to six. Bonilla broke the stalemate with an 8-6 tie-breaking win. With the match knotted up at 1-1, Bonilla sealed up her second singles win of the season with a 10-6 win.

Nadin Olson beat Belinda Camancho 6-2 and 6-1 in the third court. Newcomer Jennyfer Vivas won the fourth court in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0. Nicole Asheidu defeated Dianna Perea in the fifth court in straight sets 6-0 and 6-0.

In doubles action, Pavlovic and Olson beat Zelaya and Zhou in the first court 6-4. In the second court, Bonilla and Vivas defeated Keneisha Whittington and Camancho in the second position 8-4.

The Lady Tigers improved to 3-4 overall on the season. SSU continues the season with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Florida on March 4.
