Women’s Tennis Falls To Coastal Carolina, Mercer


SAVANNAH, Ga. – In back-to-back home games on the new Tiger Tennis Courts, the Lady Tigers fell to Coastal Carolina, 0-7, and Mercer University, 1-6 this past weekend.

Against Coastal Carolina on Friday, Andrea Pavlovic fell to Kortney Kowal 1-6, and 3-6 on the first court of singles action. In the second court, Angela Bonilla dropped straight sets, 2-6, and 2-6, to Honami Yazawa.

SSU newcomer Nadin Olson fell to Dominique De Wit in the third court in two sets, 1-6, and 0-6. Jennyfer Vivas fell to Maria Babayan by the same score in the fourth court. Rounding out the singles, Nicole Ashiedu fell to Amanda Malatek (0-6, 1-6), and Tiffany Williams lost to Mila Majtan (0-6, 0-6).

In double's action, the SSU team of Pavlovic and Olson fell, 1-8, to Kowal and Yazawa. Vivas and Bonilla dropped the second court, 1-8, to Babayan and Malatek. Bria Burrows and Ashiedu fell in the third court, 0-8, to De Wit and Majtan.

In a match against Mercer University on Saturday, Pavlovic dropped the first court to Danielle Jones in straight sets, 0-6, 1-6. Bonilla fell to Lucie Payrat (4-6, 2-6), and Olson lost to Roxy Bartz (2-6, 2-6).

In the fourth court, Vivas garnered her second win of the season, beating Natalie Franklin 7-5 in the first set. Franklin retired the second set to give SSU the point. Ashiedu lost to Haley Powell (1-6, 0-6), and Burrows dropped the final court to Amanda Bertani (1-6, 1-6).

The team of Pavlovic and Olson fell to Jones and Payrat 1-8 in the first court of double's play. Powell and Bartz beat Bonilla and Vivas in the second court 8-2. In the final double's court, Ashiedu and Williams fell to Franklin and Liza Klyachkin 0-8.

The Lady Tigers continue the season with a visit to Albany State before returning home on February 23 for a match against Benedict College.
