Tigers Fall In Home Opener

Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Chad Prain's two-run single in the top of the eighth proved to be the game winner as Georgia State defeated Savannah State 7-6 in the Tigers home opener at Tiger Field.
 
The loss keeps SSU winless on the young season with a 0-3 record.
 
Savannah State led 6-5 after seven innings of action.
 
In the top of the eighth, GSU's Chase Raffield flied out, Chris Triplett was hit by a pitch and Greg Bowder struck out for the second out. But back to back singles by Ryan Blanton and Joey Roach loaded the bases for Prain and he delivered with a single that allowed Triplett and Blanton to score the go ahead run.
 
The Tiger bats were silenced in the bottom of the inning as well as the ninth even though David Richards reached base thanks to a Panther error.
 
Eric Ricks, who pitched 1.2 innings in relief, was tagged with the loss for SSU. Ricks gave up three runs but had three strikeouts.
 
At the plate, Charles Sikes had three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Lee Moore added two hits and two RBI while Richards had two hits, scored once and drove in a run. Todd Hagen scored twice.
 
Hagen led off the game with a double and later scored on a single by Sikes for a 1-0 lead.
 
GSU scored three times in the third and once in the fourth for a 4-1 advantage.
 
Savannah State added a run in the bottom half of the fourth as Sikes led of with a single and was able to cross home plate after a single by Moore to cut the Panthers lead to 4-2.
 
In the fifth, SSU collected three hits, scored twice and left two runners on base. Ian Farris hit a double and Hagen walked to put two runners on base. After Mendez Elder struck out, Sikes and Richards hit back to back singles that allowed Farris and Hagen to score which tied the game at four.
 
In the sixth, Brian Miller entered the game as a pinch runner for the Tigers and scored a unearned run thanks to a error by the Panther shortstop to give SSU a 5-4 advantge.
 
GSU tied the game in the top of the seventh but in the bottom of the inning, Savannah State went ahead 6-5 when Moore hit a RBI single that scored Richards, who also singled.
 
Raffield had three hits for Georgia State while Tyler McClure earned the victory on the mound. McClure pitched 1.1 innings and struck out one.
 
Both teams left eight runners on base while GSU made three errors.
