Box Score 2 CLINTON, S.C.-  The Savannah State baseball team opened their 2014 campaign with a double-header loss to Presbyterian at the PC Baseball Complex.
 
The Blue Hose won the opener 9-5 and completed the sweep with a 4-0 victory in the second contest.
 
In the first game, the Tigers took the early lead.
 
After a strikeout by 
Todd Hagen, 
Mendez Elder reached on an error. Following a strikeout by newcomer Charles Sikes, 
David Richards doubled to right which allowed Elder to score. 
Parker Nix popped up to end SSU's scoring threat.
 
Presbyterian scored four runs off four hits in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.
 
Savannah State collected three hits in the top of the sixth and sent a pair of runners across home plate.
 
Hagen led off with a single and reached third following a double by Elder. A ground-out by Sikes allowed Hagen to score. After Richards popped out, Nix doubled to left which allowed Elder to score and cut the Tigers deficit to 5-3.
 
Presbyterian scored three times in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 8-3.
 
In the top of the eighth, Elder singled and later scored after a double by Richards. Sikes scored the final run for the Tigers. Sikes drew a walk, following Elder's single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nix.
 
Presbyterian scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the inning.
 
Richards had three hits and drove in two runs, Elder had two hits and scored three hits while Nix drove in two runs. 
Brandon Whitmore took the loss for the Tigers. Whitmore pitched five innings and gave up seven hits, five runs and two walks.
 
Beau Dees struck out six in a winning effort for PC while Brandon Martin went 3 for 4 at the plate.
 
In the second game, Chandler Knox scattered seven hits while pitching a complete game as the Blue Hose shut out the Tigers.
 
Presbyterian left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first but still managed to score three runs off two hits. PC (2-0) scored again in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Ian Ferris had a double for the Tigers (0-2). 
Austin Denney took the loss for SSU. Denney pitched one-third of a inning and gave up two hits, three runs and two walks. 
 
SSU relievers 
Austin Robinson and 
Eric Ricks combined to limit the Blue Hose just one hit in five innings.
