When Savannah State closed their gap to 20-16, the Eagles scored seven straight points to increase their leads to 29-16 at the 2:22 mark.

Alante Fenner got the Tigers within 31-23 with just under a minute left but Winthrop closed the period with a dunk by Tevin Prescott and took a 33-23 lead into the half.

Winthrop scored the first eight points of the second half to grab a 41-23 lead with 16:10 on the clock.

It took the Tigers nearly five minutes to score in the second half.

Reserve forward Brian Perason's jumper with 15:07 left broke the drought for SSU.

The Savannah State deficit grew to 27 with 4:21 left but the Tigers strung together a 10-2 run to get within 66-47 with just under a minute remaining.

Fenner finished with 11 points and six rebounds for SSU while Pearson contributed nine points, five rebounds and two steals.
