Tiger Bites
- The Tigers and Cougars will meet for the 1st time in the series.

- SSU's "Air-Raid" offense has the Tigers currently ranked 5th  in the conference in passing offense, averaging 168.0 yards per game.

- The Tigers are looking to avoid its first winless season in  nine years. SSU finished the 2005 season 0-11 under head coach Richard Basil.

-  SSU is tied for second in the MEAC with S.C. State in interceptions with 14. N.C. A&T leads the league with 21.  

 - SSU is fourth in the conference in punt returns with a 13.1 yard average. S.C. State leads the MEAC averaging 18.9 yards per return.
 
- For the past three games, the Tigers have used a dual quarterback system with sophomore Leon Prunty and freshman Tino Smith sharing time as the signal callers. Prunty, who has played in five games this season, is expected to get his third consecutive start against BYU.  
 
 - In the game against Howard, freshman QB Tino Smith ran for his first collegiate touchdown, a 57-yarder. He finished the night with 101 rushing yards, becoming the first SSU player to run for at least 100 yards since the 2011 season. He finished the game accounting for two touchdowns; one rushing and one passing.

- SSU standout linebacker Marquis Smith suffered a season-ending leg injury against S.C. State. Prior to the injury, Smith led the team in tackles; was fourth nationally and 2nd in the MEAC in tackles for loss; 12th nationally and 3rd in the MEAC in sacks; and  was 11th nationally and 2nd in the conference in forced fumbles.
 
- Michael Wallace was promoted to defensive coordinator prior to preseason camp. Wallace was the Tigers defensive coordinator from 1995-97.

- BYU assistant Guy Holliday was an assistant with Tuskegee from 1992-94. SSU played Tuskegee those three years and won two of the three contests. SSU beat 'Skegee in 1992 (35-24) and 1993 (32-16) but lost to the Golden Tigers in 1994 (22-21).

-Freshman running back Joshua Berry is a cancer survivor. Berry was diagnosed with acute leukemia in Nov. 2010. Josh is now in remission after chemotherapy and blood platelet transfusions.
