Savannah State Loses To Troy

TROY, Ala.- The Savannah State football team fell to Football Bowl Series (FBS) opponent Troy, 66-3 in a contest played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Trojans jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter as Corey Robinson threw eight-yard touchdown passes to Eric Scott while Will Scott hit a 37-yard field goal.
SSU slowed down the Troy offense in the second quarter, limiting the Trojans to one touchdown, a one-yard run by Jordan Chunn to make the score 24-0.
Savannah State prevented a shutout when freshman John Barron connected on a 40-yard field goal with 55 seconds left in the second quarter. The scoring drive took seven plays and 45 yards.
Troy led 24-3 at the half.
In the second half, Troy scored 28 points in the third quarter and added 14 points in the fourth quarter.
As a team, the Tigers (0-2) had 147 yards of offense.
Leon Prunty completed 7 of 12 passes for 78 yards. Reserve quarterback Victorian Hardison ran for 12 yards on two carries while tight end Kris Drummond caught three passes for 45 yards. Justin Dixon and Greg Brown each had nine tackles for the defense.
The crowd of 20,021 saw the Trojans put together a balanced attack.
Troy (2-0) had 251 yards rushing and 280 yards passing. The Trojan defense had six sacks and ran one interception back for a 78 yard touchdown.
Deon Anthony ran for 59 yards for Troy. Robinson passed for 180 yards and four touchdowns while Thomas caught three passes for 66 yards and three touchdowns. J. Garner had six tackles for the defense.
