Tigers Open NCAA Tournament With Loss To Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After holding Florida State to one run in the first inning, the ninth-ranked Seminoles scored five times in the second and four times in the third in a 10-0 victory over Savannah State in the first round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament before a crowd of 3,804 at Hoswer Stadium.
The Tigers, who had runners in scoring position in the first three innings and the final three innings, were held to seven hits and left 11 runners on base. FSU (45-15) collected 13 hits and stranded 13runners.
SSU will face Alabama in the elimination game on June 1 at noon.
The Seminoles led 1-0 after the first inning as DJ Stewart walked and later scored on a double by Jose Brizuela.
In the second, FSU scored five runs on five hits as Stewart hit a RBI single, Marcus Davis hit a two-run double and Stephen McGee hit a two-run home run for a 6-0 cushion.
Florida State added four runs off three hits in the third inning as Stewart and Davis both hit two-run doubles.
Mendez Elder and David Richards both had doubles for the Tigers. (33-22). Starter Kyle McGowin pitched five innings and gave up 10 runs, nine hits and six walks while striking out six.
Davis had three hits and drove in four runs for Florida State. Scott Sitz pitched 7.1 innings for FSU as he struck out eight and gave up seven hits.
