Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Kyle McGowin and Eric Ricks combined to throw a five-hitter as Savannah State defeated Alabama Birmingham 5-1 at Young Memorial Field.

McGowin pitched six inning and gave up four hits while striking out five while Ricks came on in relief and struck out three batters in three innings while surrendering one run and one hit.

Darien Campbell and Antonio Scott scored runs for SSU in the top of the third for a 2-0 lead.

Kevin Herlihy crossed home plate in the third for the Tigers for a 3-0 lead.

Savannah State (18-13) increased their advantage to 5-0 in the seventh when Joseph McCrary hit a RBI single and Parker Nix doubled in a run.

The Blazers prevented a shutout in the bottom of the inning when Chase Davis scored.

SSU left nine runners on base while Alabama Birmingham left seven.

Nix had a pair of hits for SSU and drove in two runs. McCrary also drove in two runs.

Davis had three hits for UAB (14-16). Tanner Bryant pitched 6.1 innings and took the loss. Bryant gave up four runs and three walks.
