SSU Splits DH With Rattlers

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Kendall Week's sacrifice fly allowed Ben Robinson to score the winning run in the top of the 12th inning to give Florida A&M a 5-4 win over Savannah State in the first game of a double-header at Tiger Field. SSU bounced back in the second game to post a 5-0 victory.

In the first game, Robinson hit a RBI single in the top of the first to give FAMU the early lead but the Tigers answered in the bottom half of the first when Joseph McCrary's single brought home Mendez Elder to tie the game at 1-1.

The Rattlers went ahead 4-1 with three runs in the second inning.

SSU crept back into the game as Todd Hagen drove in runs in the fourth and sixth innings to put Savannah State within 4-3.

In the ninth, SSU had three hits but a single by Parker Nix tied the game at 4-4 as Elder came across home plate.

SSU had 14 hits but made three errors and left 15 men on base while the Rattlers had 11 hits, three errors and stranded 12 runners.

McCrary had three hits while Hagen had two RBI for SSU. Kyle McGowin struck out 16 batters in nine innings. Eric Ricks took the loss, giving up one run in three innings of work.

Marlon Gibbs had three hits for FAMU while Wil Carrasoo struck out four in six innings to get the win.

In the second game, Jack May struck out seven batters in seven innings to earn the win.

Darien Campbell hit a RBI single in the second to give SSU (20-15, 8-5) a 1-0 lead and the Tigers added three more in the fourth as McCrary, Nix and Arnold scored runs for a 4-0 advantage.

Hagen scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth.

Campbell had two hits and two RBIs while McCrary had two hits and scored twice.

Pete Jackson had two hits for FAMU (3-34,3-14).
