Tigers Take Two From Bethune-Cookman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Savannah State scored six times in the ninth inning in game one while Jackson May and Rexford Davis combined to throw a five-hitter in the nightcap as SSU swept a double-header from Bethune-Cookman 14-4 and 3-2 at Robinson Park.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first in the first game but Antonio Scott and Todd Hagen each had an RBI in the top of the second to give SSU a 2-1 edge. Cookman scored twice in the bottom of the inning to go on top 3-2.

Savannah State scored four times in the fourth as Darien Campbell and Scott had RBI singles while Hagen doubled in a run to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead.

Chris Arnold hit a three-run home run and Joseph McCrary hit a two-run triple to highlight the ninth inning as the Tigers sent six runners across home plate.

Cookman added a run in the bottom of the inning to close out the scoring.

Both teams made two errors but SSU had 15 hits while the Wildcats had 11 hits. B-CU stranded 10 runners on base while the Tigers left nine on base.

McCrary and Arnold each drove in three runs for the Tigers while Hagen had three hits. Kyle McGowin improved to 7-0 on the season as he struck out nine batters in eight innings.

Eros Modena had two RBI in the loss for the Wildcats. Montana Durapau pitched four inning and gave up nine hits and six runs to take the loss.

Cookman left nine runners on base in the second game and made three errors.

McCrary hit a RBI single in the top of the first to give SSU a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored in the second and third for a 2-1 lead.

SSU tied the game in the fifth when Kevin Herlihy hit a RBI double.

In the top of the seventh, Scott reached on an error by the second baseman and later scored the game winner on an error by the catcher.

The Wildcats (13-16, 6-5) left two runners on base in the bottom of the inning but could not score.

Herlihy had a double and a single at the plate for SSU (17-10, 7-3). Davis earned the win as he pitched three innings in relief, giving up two hits and two walks.

Josh Johnson collected three hits for B-CU. Scott Garner struck out five batters but gave up five hits and three runs in 6.1 innings.
