Strong Pitching Lead Tigers Over A&T

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C.- Strong pitching performances led Savannah State to sweep a double-header from North Carolina A&T at War Memorial Stadium.

Kyle McGowin struck out six batters in a 12-5 win in game one while Jack May hurled a two-hitter in a 4-1 victory in game two.

The wins upped SSU's overall record to 15-8 and improved the Tigers to 5-3 in conference play.

In the first contest, Savannah State ripped the Aggies for 15 hits while A&T made six errors.

A two-run single by Stefan Jordan gave A&T a 2-0 lead in the second inning but the Tigers bounced back to score four times in the top of the fourth, with the help of three Aggie errors and a two-run single by Antonio Scott.

Jordan had another RBI in the bottom of the inning to cut SSU's lead to 4-3.

SSU added six runs in the top of the fifth as Kevin Herlihy, Joseph McCrary, Parker Nix, Mendez Elder, Gian Mirabel, and Chris Arnold all crossed home plate for a 10-3 advantage.

A&T scored twice in the bottom of the inning to make the score 10-5.

Scott and Todd Hagen both drove in runs in the seventh for the final runs in the game to give the Tigers a seven run victory.

Scott had three RBIs while Arnold scored three times. McCrary and Elder each had three hits. McGowin pitched a complete game and gave up nine hits.

Jordan drove in three runs for A&T while Brent Moore was tagged with the loss as he gave up 11 hits and 10 runs in four innings.

In the second game, the Tigers broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth with three runs as Scott scored on a pass ball and Elder hit a two-run single for a 4-1 lead.

Luke Tendler hit a RBI double in the third to give the Aggies (7-15, 3-5) and 1-0 lead but SSU tied the game in the fourth when McCrary doubled and came home on a single by Drew Quinney.

Elder had two hits and two RBI to lead the SSU attack.

The Aggies, who made four errors, got five strikeouts from Josh Ganus who pitched six innings.
