Tigers Split DH With NC Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State baseball team split a double header with visiting North Carolina Central at Tiger Field, winning the opener 8-5 but losing the nightcap 14-0.

The the first game, SSU scored twice in the bottom of the first as Joseph McCrary hit a RBI double followed by a RBI single by Parker Nix. McCrary's hit brought home Mendez Elder, who reached on a fielder's choice while Nix's hit drove home McCrary.

Nix, David Richards and Chris Arnold all singled in the fourth with Arnold';s single allowing Nix to score to give SSU a 3-0 lead.

NCCU tied the game in the top of the seventh as Carter Williamson hit a RBI double and Spencer Franceschetti hit a two-run double.

In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers exploded for five runs. Todd Hagen belted a two-run double while Mendez hit a RBIU single, McCrary hit a RBI double and Nix hit a RBI single for a 8-3 lead.

NCCU added two runs in the ninth.

Kyle McGowin stuck out seven batters in eight innings for the Tigers. Hagen, McCrary and Nix all drove in two runs while Elder and McCrary scored twice. McCrary had three hits in the game.

Franceschetti had three RBIs for the Eagles. Michael Romano took the loss on the mound, giving up 11 hits and eight runs while striking out five.

The second game was all Eagles (10-9, 4-4) as the out-hit SSU 10-6.

NCCU led 1-0 after the second inning but scored six times in the third, twice in the fifth and five times in the sixth.

Both squads left seven runners on base.

Peter Poole had two singles for the Tigers (13-6, 3-2). Ross Hunter pitched 2.2 innings and gave up two hits, five runs and four walks.

Williamson and Christian Triplett each drove in four runs for Central while Glenn Frye pitched a complete game on the mound.
