Tigers Sweep AAMU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State completed a three-game weekend sweep of visiting Alabama A&M by beating the Bulldogs in a double-header at Tiger Field.

Zach Bryant's single drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to give SSU a 8-7 victory in the first game while Joseph McCrary hit two triples, scored twice and drove in two runs in a 10-5 win in game two.

Kevin Herlihy tripled in the bottom of the first and scored on a single by Mendez Elder for a 1-0 lead.

A&M tied the game on a home run by Brad Black in the top of the third but the Tigers went ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the inning as Todd Hagen and Herlihy drove in runs.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the seventh and went ahead 7-3 with four runs in the top of the eighth. SSU answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on one hit as Parker Nix, Peter Poole, Chris Arnold and David Richards crossed home plate.

A&M left two runners on base in the ninth and one in the top of the tenth but was unable to score.

In the bottom of the inning, Antonio Scott singled and advanced to third on an error. Scott scored the winning run when Bryant singled to left field.

Herlihy had three hits and 3 RBIs for SSU in the win while Rex Davis earned the win. Davis pitched two innings in relief and struck out three batters while giving up three hits and one walk.

Austin Hulsey had three hits and drove in two runs for A&M while Josh Freeman was tagged with the loss. Caleb Bown struck out eight batters for the Bulldogs in 4.1 innings in relief. The Bulldogs stranded 14 runners in the game.

In the second game, A&M scored once in the top of the first but SSU answered with five runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning and added two more runs in the second and one more in the third for a 8-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the first, Hagen, Herlihy, Elder. McCrary and Nix all scored runs. Hagen scored in the second and McCrary hit a triple that scored Elder while in the third, Hagen hit a RBI single that scored Skyler Strickland who reached on a fielder's choice.

Both teams scored single runs in the fourth to give SSU a 9-2 lead.

The Bulldogs closed their deficit to 9-5 with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Savannah State scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth when McCrary tripled and came home on a double by Nix.

SSU made three errors but had 12 hits at the plate. Hagen, Elder, McCrary and Scott all had two hits each for the Tigers. Hagen and Elder also scored twice. Sherman Graves got the win on the mound. Graves pitched 4.2 innings and gave up four hits, four walks and three runs while striking out three.

Hulsey drove in two runs for AAMU. Micah Johnson was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs, four hits and two walks in 1.2 innings.
